چکیده

Motion gestures have been proposed as an interaction paradigm for pairing, and sharing data between, mobile devices. They have also been used for interaction with large screens such as semi-public displays where a mobile phone can be used as a form of remote control in an eyes-free manner. Yet, so far, little attention has been paid to their potential use in cross-device web applications. We therefore decided to develop a framework that would support investigations into the use of a combination of touch and tilt interactions in cross-device scenarios. We first report on a study that motivated the development of the framework and informed its design. We then present the resulting Cross-Tilt-andTap (CTAT) framework for the rapid development of applications that make use of various motion gestures for communication between two or more devices. We conclude by describing an applications developed using

Multi-modal text entry and selection on a mobile device

Rich text tasks are increasingly common on mobile devices, requiring the user to interleave typing and selection to produce the text and formatting she desires. However, mobile devices are a rich input space where input does not need to be limited to a keyboard and touch. In this paper, we present two complementary studies evaluating four different input modalities to perform selection in suppo...

Tilt-and-Tap: Framework to Support Motion-Based Web Interaction Techniques

Mobile devices in everyday use such as smartphones and tablets contain sensors capable of detecting the motion of the device in terms of the angle and speed of rotation. While these have been exploited in a range of mobile apps, little attention has been paid to how these could be used to support interaction on the web. To enable researchers and developers to explore new forms of interaction ba...

Off-vertical rotation produces conditioned taste aversion and suppressed drinking in mice.

The effects of off-vertical rotation upon the intake of tap water immediately after rotation, and upon conditioned taste aversion, were assessed in mice with the tilt of the rotation axis varying from 5 to 20 degrees from the earth-vertical. Conditioned taste aversion occurred in all mice that were rotated, but the intake of tap water was suppressed only in mice that were rotated at 15 or 20 de...

Evaluating A Communication Technology Assessment Tool (Ctat): A Case Of A Cloud Based Communication Tool

A primary concern of distributed adaptive development environment (DADE) is that of human communication and knowledge sharing among geographically dispersed developers. Emerging cloudbased communication technologies claim to provide a support for communication and knowledge sharing among developers in a DADE. However, the challenge is how to enable developers to self assess and select appropria...

Toward a Rapid Development Environment for Cognitive Tutors

We are developing a suite of Cognitive Tutor Authoring Tools (CTAT) intended to make tutor development both easier and faster for experienced modelers and possible for potential modelers who are not experts in cognitive psychology or artificial intelligence programming. Our goal is to demonstrate a reduction in development time by a factor of three. We employ Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) me...
